PSA's Approach to Leadership and Management
Development
Development is most effective when the context is
right. This means there is a clear and understood business reason for the
development, the development is appropriate to the culture of the organisation
and the learner feels the need for it.
PSA’s in-company Leadership and Management Development Programmes are designed
to develop the leader/ manager and the organisation. This is achieved through
providing development that supports the delivery of business strategy.
Typically these are programmes of 12-18 months in duration and uses a modular
approach, each module being clearly linked with the business strategy. The
programme commences with a organisation specific 360 degree feedback tool that
determines both the development needs of the individual and their understanding
of the business and its strategy. Development is then delivered as discrete
modules according to the needs of the participant as highlighted by the manager
and through the 360 degree feedback.

Underpinning the development framework are our
beliefs that Leadership and Management Development Programmes should:
-
Allow participants to work on the real issues of
leading and managing in their organisation in a manner that is practical and
stimulating.
-
Be innovative, effective and based on best practice.
-
Be used as an opportunity to add measurable positive
impact to the organisation.
-
Be flexible enough to accommodate a range of
learning needs and learning styles.
-
Be relevant to the range of seniority and
responsibility of the participants.
-
Develop both personal insight and organisational
‘outsight’.
-
Ensure that participants are responsible for
managing their own learning and that learning continues long after the end of
the programme.
-
Until individuals can lead, manage and organise
themselves, they will have difficulty leading, managing and organising others.
-
Be driven by the participants; tap into their
experience and build a network of support
Finally, we believe that our role as tutors is to
work with programme participants on their development journey; to provide
challenge, support, input and ideas in order to help individuals to understand
the practical aspects of leadership and their sense of personal authority when
in a leading and managing role.
